Past PhD students


Vahid Hadavi

Vahid Hadavi obtained his BASc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kerman University in 2005, and his MASc in from K.N.Toosi University of Technology in 2008. He finished his PhD  in our lab in 2016, focusing on the numerical analysis of particle embedding in the abrasive jet machining of metals.


Naser Haghbin

Naser Haghbin obtained his BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the Iran University of Science and Technology in 1994, and subsequently worked for 14 years in industry. He obtained his MASc in Mechanical Engineering from Ryerson University in 2011. He finished his PhD in our lab in 2015, focusing on the modeling of milling of metals using abrasive waterjet micro-machining.


Kavin Kowsari

Kavin Kowsari obtained his BASc and MASc degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2006 and 2013, respectively. Co-supervised with Dr. Jan Spelt, he finished his PhD at the University of Toronto in 2017, focusing on the modeling of the selective micro-machining of ceramics, metals, and polymers using controlled erosion processes such as abrasive slurry, air, and water jet.


Ali (Mike) Matinmanesh

Mike Matinmanesh obtained his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) in 2010 and his Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (Laurea Magistrale) from the Politecnico di Milano (Italy) in 2013. He finished his PhD in our lab in 2018, focusing on improving the reliability and long term performance of orthopedic implants inside the human body by developing new bio-glass coatings.



Ali Nouhi

Ali Nouhi obtained his BASc and MASc degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Shiraz University in 2008 and 2011, respectively. He finished his PhD  in our lab in 2017, focusing on the modeling of abrasive jet micro-machining on highly curved surfaces.


Hooman Nouraei

Hooman Nouraei obtained his BASc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ryerson University in 2008, and his MASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2010. Co-supervised with Dr. Jan Spelt, Hooman finished his PhD at the University of Toronto in 2015, focusing on the prediction of machined surface evolution in abrasive slurry jet micro-machining.


Jeff Schwartzentruber

Jeff Schwartzentruber obtained his BEng in Aerospace Engineering and MASc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ryerson University in 2011 and 2013, respectively. He finished his PhD in our lab in 2018,  focusing on the modeling of abrasive waterjet and abrasive waterjet micro-machining of composite materials.


Mohammad Reza Sookhaklari

Mohammad Reza Sookhaklari obtained his BASc and MASc degrese in Mechanical Engineering from Shiraz University in 2008 and 2011, respectively. He finished his PhD  in our lab in 2016, focusing on controlling the shape of micro-features made using abrasive jet micro-machining.

Past MASc students


Farbod Ahmadzadeh

Farbod Ahmadzadeh obtained his BASc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ryerson University in 2014. Co-supervised Dr. S. Tsai, he is studying alternative methods of fabricating 3D microchannels using abrasive jet micro-machining, graduating with his MASc in 2016.


Technician

Chao Ma

Chao Ma obtained his MASc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ryerson University in 2006. He has been the head technician in our laboratories since 2007.
